Hello From CIAC

Chelsy Gevas

For nearly five years, CIAC “the Christian Immigration Advocacy Center” has worked hard to serve the immigrant and refugee population of Pittsburgh by providing high-quality and low-cost legal services.

Now, as the weather changes and we usher in this beautiful spring, I am reminded of these words in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

Here at CIAC, we are entering a new season as well and we want to share all that God is doing in and through us in our first monthly newsletter!

A Virtual Practice

Last year, when many organizations were shutting their doors and cutting services in response to the COVID-19 crisis, CIAC leapt into action and began providing all services virtually. By utilizing Zoom and virtual translators, we were able to continue to meet with clients on a regular basis and to provide the same legal services we always have.

Now, a year later, we are serving more clients than ever before. As our practice no longer depends on in-person appointments, we have the unique opportunity to serve clients from anywhere in the United States.

God is good!

Pioneering Volunteer and Internship Opportunities

This summer, CIAC will welcome our first undergraduate intern as well as a law student volunteer. We have been working hard to put together training materials and resources to equip these students to serve alongside our staff.

Our hope is that we can begin to create opportunities for people just like you to use your own strengths and giftings to “love the stranger among us” as we are commanded in Leviticus 19:33.

Staff Updates

Accredited Representative Rogerio Torres is joining our team full time. He strengthens the team with his three years of experience representing immigrants in their legal matters. Originally from Brazil, Rogerio and his family have experienced the trials and complexities of the immigration process firsthand. We are thrilled to be adding his expertise and invaluable perspective to the CIAC team.

We are committed to keeping in touch with you!

We are so excited about the ministry that God has given us to do, and we want to share it with you. You can expect regular updates from us in the form of email newsletters with personal stories, blogs, and social media updates.

We want to keep you up to date on all that is going on at CIAC and in the immigrant communities we serve.

We also want to keep you informed about all the ways you can participate, help, give or pray as CIAC seeks to serve the immigrant and refugee community.
