God Calls All to Rest

Jessica Weaver

As a child, I eagerly anticipated the summer months. It was a break from school and activities and was full of lazy mornings, days in the pool, summer camp and family time. But when I entered adulthood, those summer months suddenly felt rushed, with the same work load and responsibilities plus a packed schedule of summer events.

One of the spiritual disciplines that God teaches us is rest. He demonstrated it by taking a day of rest Himself after creating the world. Why is it that the Creator of the Universe can take a day of sabbath, yet I feel my schedule is too full and important to prioritize this important gesture of worship?

This summer, the staff of CIAC is prioritizing rest. We have been overwhelmed by the amazing things God has done in the past year, and yet it is easy to feel overworked and tired.

We believe all are called to rest and want our clients, who have traveled thousands of miles to the United States, to feel our office and staff provide a place of safety and rest for them.

Our season of rest allows us to focus deeply on our clients and ensure that we are continuing to offer affordable, high-quality and compassionate legal aid to immigrants and refugees. It also permits us space to ask the Lord to guide us for the future of CIAC.

We are honored that our phone continues to ring with people who are willing to trust us with their important legal immigration work, and are excited for the season ahead of us.
