Meet Rosa
Jessica Weaver
Our Newest Staff Member, Rosa Diendomi Alvarez.
We are thrilled to welcome Rosa to our staff. She will be training to become an accredited representative, enabling us to respond to our ever-increasing demand for legal services. She brings experience, humility and compassion to her role. Learn more about her story below:
Rosa is a mother of two boys, lawyer, human rights defender and activist. She holds a master’s degree in human rights and international humanitarian law, with specialized training in statelessness and research.
Rosa is Dominican of Haitian descent. She began her work in the defense of human rights as a social promoter in the bateyes (community of sugar mill workers) of San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic.
From 2007 to 2009, she coordinated the Social Polices Roundtable of the Higuamo Region with 34 organizations, and is a founding member of Movimiento Reconci.do.
In 2013, the Dominican Republic’s Supreme Court stripped citizenship from anyone with Haitian parents, leaving 200,000 stateless. Rosa was a candidate for Congress in 2016 for the 2nd precinct of San Pedroe de Macoris, focusing on defending citizenship rights. She was featured in two documentaries – “Stateless” and “Our Lives in Transit.”
Due to her work defending human rights and denouncing state corruption, Rosa has been exiled from the Dominican Republic since 2018.
Rosa considers CIAC a great opportunity and blessing as she will be able to continue working to serve people like herself who have to leave their country of origin.
Rosa hopes to be able to support the great work that CIAC does by continuing watering the seed of hope, with love and faith, to the entire community that requires immigration services.
